How did you attract/ address your audience?

In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of a real media product?

I looked at the film I am legend which I took inspiration from after analyzing the film because it was the same genre, post-apocalyptic, that my group wanted our film to be, it was also aimed at the same audience and followed a similar effects of isolation and loneliness  about the end of the world in I am legend. From this film, our media product has developed the forms and conventions of post-apocalyptic disaster films. Looking at the camera shots, angles and focuses, in the film I am legend, establishing shots are widely used so we used establishing shots of our location to create that feel of isolation. This showed the audience exactly what is happening and how deserted it was in our scenes. Another shot type which is used throughout I am legend is a close up, low angle with a deep focus on the characters faces to show their facial expressions so we have used this convention of real media product, to show our characters emotions to the audience.
We also decided to develop forms and conventions of disaster/post-apocalyptic film through the sound we used in our title sequence. Our title sequence uses ambient music throughout which is used in most post-apocalyptic films such as 28 days later and oblivion. However, we challenged forms and conventions of the post-apocalyptic genre by using slightly emotional music which isn't a regular, common occurrence in post-apocalyptic films so by using this music, we have challenged the stereotypes of disaster films so that our title sequence appeals to a larger audience rather than just post-apocalyptic fans. I also thought that the music that we picked also heightens the sense of isolation and loneliness that the main character would feel. Again we used forms and conventions of real media products in our film opening by the sound effects used. We used an old radio noise that relayed the events that has happened.  This is specifically for the disaster movies which are all used to represent reality to my target audience.

We also challenged forms and conventions of real media products by our visual effects but this was this was due to not having a budget like the real films so we had to make our own footage as interesting as we could using as many camera angles as we could. Also the fact we couldn't access the software to create the complex special effects and even if we did have the software we would just not have had the time or skill to create the effects and make them look professional and good. Therefore, we decided just to use sound to show the sense of a big disaster and to create the isolation that we wanted to create so badly in our title sequence. Therefore this challenged stereotypes of a post-apocalyptic/ disaster film.
