post apocalyptic film research 3

Image of World War Z

World war Z

The movie is about a United Nations employee Gerry Lane traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments, and threatening to destroy humanity itself.

Setting-
the film starts set in a city, then it goes to being set in on a army boat where people have been moved for there own protection. The film changes setting a few times as the film progresses like there is a setting in a plain and a old city as well. All of these settings all mixed together and switch round to make a more interesting story. i think by changing the setting often makes it  a better film as if the whole film was set in one place it would be perhaps boring. So i personally think that how the director has shaped things up a bit  with the setting ha created a better film by doing so.

lighting- in this film i think it has mainly used natural lighting  as most of the scenes shot in this film are actually set outside. They probably used some artificial lighting too. They would have done this to cut down on the amount of days it took them to film. They also would of used artificial lighting in darker areas where they needed to film. However even when they did us artificial lighting it looks well and you cant tell that they have used it. The lighting in in the film has a good range of contrast between when it is bright and in the darker areas. The lighting fits in well as each scene has the perfect lighting for the ambiance that there trying to create in them and they capture it really well.

Special effects- like in every film this film also uses a lot of special effects, as this is a zombie film i think that more special effects are needed compared to a film with just normal people. There is also a lot of special effects that you never would of thought were actual effects. there is a scene in the film were a plane gets destroyed in the air and people are flying out of this plane into the sky and then it crashes. In that one scene alone there would of been loads of special effects used.

Costumes- With each actor comes a different costume depending on what there part in the film is obviously. In this film each character doesn't tend to have that many costumes personally. they tend to have only have 1-3 different costumes throughout the film however they have lots of copies of the same costume but maybe slightly dirtier or ripped or have blood on or the progression of the costume getting dirtier throughout the film . this is because it is a survival film they will only be able change there clothes when they have chance when there out and about they clothes will only be getting dirtier and messed up.

post apocalyptic film research 2

The hunger games.

Image of The Hunger Games
Katniss Everdeen voluntarily takes her younger sister's place in the Hunger Games, a televised fight to the death in which two teenagers from each of the twelve Districts of Panem are chosen at random to compete.

Setting- The hunger games is set in the future in the ruins North America, in the nation of panem. The country is divided into 12 districts. however the film is set in many different places throughout the film  and the trailer. Like in woods, in a city and a battle field.

Lighting- The lighting changes throughout the whole film. in most of the film it uses natural light. This is because they tend to be outside. Therefore using natural light. but at times where there inside and its dark they have used lights to create the atmosphere that is needed and to get the best lighting for the shots that are needed.

Special effects- Like all films this film uses many special effects like the use of big screens and like the use of future looking thing.

Costumes- There are a good few costumes that they used in this film. things like fancy clothing like nice dresses then things like training all in ones and normal every day clothing. all costumes worn are appropriate for each scene.

Props- loads of props are used mainly just normal things that you hardly notice because there that normal however if they were not there it would look odd. they also use props like weapons that are suited for the film.

Where we shot our preliminary

This preliminary didn't go very well at all we didn't put in our conversation with over the shoulder shots and 360 degrees. also we forgot to use the zoom mic to record sound. So when i started to do the editing me had no sound to put in. This is why we didn't end up using it for our final preliminary.

post apocalyptic film research 1

Image of I Am LegendI am legend

A good few years after a plague has killed most of humanity and turns the rest in to monsters, the one survivor in new York goes around trying to find a cure for those have turned. doing this he finds troubles on his way. with this struggle he desperately searches on.

Setting- i am ledgand is set in the deserted new york city. that has fallen apart in places. this really does set it as there is litrally no one in new york at all apart from will smith so this shows exactly how alone he actually is fighting to survive from theses zombies that are trying to kill him.

Lighting- The lighting is apropreate for the time of the day and what is happening. when its in the day the lighting is obviously good lighting and bright where as when its night time it is very dark in this trailor it shows you the different lightings. there is also a different lighting when he is in his house/ flat as there would be in real life. so the lighting used is everyday lighting nothing out of the norm really lighting that is created mainly by the suns light.

Shot types-
                                                             Astablishing shot.
                                                               Over the sholder shot
                                                             Big close up
                                                                Over the head shot

Special effects-
The use quite a few special effects in this trailor things like the rockets that go into the bridge that is a really good special effect.

Costumes- The costumes in this trailor are just normal clothes really in some cases they may be a little dirty, but they are just normal everyday clothes.

Props- The dog is used as a prop also things like the gun and everyday objects. most of the props used are things that we see everyday and dont even notice them as props. However it shows that the film has been very thoughtful as you dont notice that there actually props.

i, robot title sequence time line

This title sequence was a short one all of the credits came quite quick and they ran throughout the whole title sequence.
The music tends to run throughout the whole film as well. untill near the end.
I wasnt really liking this title sequence it wasnt really intresting though it did do its job efficiantly.
The film opening was quite dark and mysterious.

zombieland title sequence time line

This was a really long but it grabbed my atention the whole way through beacuse it was a really interesting film opening.
The film opening has some naration through the title sequence. This film gripped me as it was different to the other film openings that i looked at for my theme as the other ones were mainly dark looking and were quite serious where as this one had a sence of humour within it.
Though in the film opening it took a while for the credits to come in but when they did they ran through quick.

3rd film: Moon

Moon is a 2009 British science fiction drama film directed by Duncan Jones. The film is about Sam Bell (played by Sam Rockwell), a man who experienes a personal crisis as he nears the end of a three-year solitary stint mintechnologyhelium-3 on the far side of the Moon. It was the feature debut of director Duncan Jones. Kevin Spacey voices Sam's robot companion, GERTY. Moon premiered at the 2009 Sun dance Film Festival and was released in select cinemas in New York and Los Angeles on 12 June 2009. The release was expanded to additional theaters in the United States and Toronto on both 3 and 10 July and to the United Kingdom on 17 July.

The mise en scene of this film.

Setting

This film is set on the moon, in a space base and in a space ship. This is because the film is about a man doing a three year mission on the moon but it not going the way he thought it was and trying to get home. The film is also called 'moon' so where it is set is clearly on the moon.

Lighting

The lighting in the moon has high key lighting and low key lighting.  As the film is set in space when he is outside the light tends to be Low key as it is dark up in space with only a few light sources in space so they have set the scene by using low key lighting wellbin places. They use high key lighting in hes bace as in the base all the walls and eveverything are all white so the lighting need to be high key as its sets the scene too.
Shot types

Special effect

They use lots of special effects as because it os shot in space they need to use theses to make the film seem more realistic.  They a ould have used a green screen in places like when he was actually walking about on the moon as they would need to do this as they cant actually film on the moon.

Costumes

They dont actually use that many costumes in this film as there only is really one character in it mainly. They use the obvious outfits like every day outfits for when he is in his space bace and also they use costumes like a space suit when he is on the moon this fits in with the film as the costumes go with what the film is based on and what is going on in the film at the time.

Prop

They use many props in the film without you even noticing as they use props like everyday objects like shavers and mirrors, so normal things like that and then they use more unusual props things like complex devices and computers and more technology.

Second film: star wars

Star Wars is an American epic space op important in like most dilms tchise centered on a film series created by George Lucas. The film series has spawned an extensive media franchise called the Expanded Universe including books, television series, computer and video games, and comic books. These supplements to the two film trilogies have resulted in significant development of the series' fictional universe. These media kept the franchise active in the interim between the film trilogies. The franchise depicts a galaxy described as far, far away in the distant future, and it commonly portrays Jedi as a representation of good, in conflict with the Sith, their evil counterpart. Their weapon of choice, the lightsaber, is commonly recognized in popular culture. The fictional universe also contains many themes, especially influences of philosophy and religion.

The mise en scene of the film.

Setting.

The setting of this film is set on different planets, in out of space and on space ships in a different galaxy. The setting in this film is specific for this film as it is all about aliens and other creatures up in space in the distant future. Therefore it needs to be in another galaxy and in outer space.

Lighting

The lighting in the film changes depending were abouts the characters are. On planets in places it tends to use a variety of high key and low key lighting. Up in space it tends to be more low key lighting and alot darker. These all make sence really. The lighting is thought about dramatically to create the perfect scenes. There never is a unusual lighting ib these films as they have gone into In great depth to make the lighting fit with the scene.

Editing

The films editing is really good as it is clearly up to a high standard as it should be. The scenes all run smoothly and each shot runs smoothly into each other Nicely.

Shot types

Special effects

This film uses lots of different special effects. This is because it is set in space and on different planets. They do this by filming on a green screen.  They do this so they can add In the special effects like buildings that don't exist. Also in special effects they can add in flying objects snd things like that.

Costumes

The costumes in the film are to fit in with each individuals character.  They have thought heard about what character would WhWhere what. These go together well to make a perfect  visual preformance.

Props

The props you really dont thibk about but they are really important. Like in most films this film uses every day objects but also uses things that you would never actually see in real life. Things liks light sabers. Thats a type of prop. In this f I lm they use alot of hightech props. This goes with the style of the film though so they all work really well together even though you dont notice that there actually props.

research into my genre 1.

first film: The matrix

The Matrix is a 1999 American–Australian science fiction action film written and directed by The Wachowski Brothers, and starring Keanu Reeves,Laurence FishburneCarrie-Anne MossJoe Pantoliano, and Hugo Weaving. It depicts a dystopian future in which reality as perceived by most humans is actually a simulated reality called "the Matrix", created by sentient machines to subdue the human population, while their bodies' heat and electrical activity are used as an energy source. Computer programmer "Neo" learns this truth and is drawn into a rebellion against the machines, which involves other people who have been freed from the "dream world".

The mise en scene of the Matrix trailer.

The setting.

The film is set in what seems to be a normal city and in normal city buildings. they have done this to reinforce the simulated reality that the humans are actually in! 'The Matrix'. So in this movie the setting is in a normal place its just the things that are going on inside the city that is not normal.

The lighting.

The lighting in this film trailor is very dark. this suggest some sort of darkness in the film like there is something more. It is even quite dark when there outside in the light. it also suggests something bad is going to happen.

Editing

The editing in the film trailor is were they have cropped little bits of the film and put them together but they have done it in a way that each clip of different scenes blend in nicely. They have also edited words in to present the film and really sell it it asks questions so it connects with the audience.

Special effects

The special effects in the trailor show exactly how skilled the people in the film are. In the special effects they are mainly things like things fallin on fire and things moving really fast like bullets and people moving really fast. with these special effects you can litrally see them. like the actuall blury movement that there is.

Costumes

with the costumes they are all wearing dark costumes to match there character. the all tend to be wearing suites or some leather long jackets or leathery clothes. These items of clothing fit in with the theme of this film with the agents and the spies if they can really be classed as spies they are more like the good guys that are trying to save the human race from this imaginary world that they are living in being controlled by the bad guys in the matrix.

Props

They us many different props in this trailor. mainly things like different types of guns or weapons. they use these props to make the film even more realistic. they use the props very well as they are good actors and create a intresting film to watch. The props really do capture the audiences atention.

5th film : The day the earth stood still.

The Day the Earth Stood Still is a 2008 American science fiction film, a remake of the 1951 film of the same name. The screenplay is based on the 1940 classic science fiction short story "Farewell to the Master" by Harry Bates, and the 1951 screenplay adaptation by Edmund H. North.
Directed by Scott Derrickson and starring Keanu Reeves as Klaatu, this version replaces the Cold War theme of nuclear warfare with the contemporary issue of humankind's environmental damage to the planet. It follows Klaatu, an alien sent to try to change human behavior or eradicate them from Earth.

The mise en scene for this film

Setting.

The setting for this film is set in a normal city and in a secret establishment. As the movie is about an alien invader coming to earth the tell them there doom. So the concept of the movie fits in with the setting its self as it is appropriate.

lighting

The lighting in this trailer is quite dark in my opinion this shows the mystery and the horrors and things that may lay ahead. I also think its quite dark as he is an alien and its not something humans are used to so I think it represents the fear that the humans in the film have of this man.

Editing

The editing in this trailer are things like how the clips in the film run smoothly and in order. they fade really nicely into each other. Also edited in there are titles and dates when the film is going to be in cinemas these are also run into the trailer smoothly.

Shot types

Special effects

There are lots of special effects in this trailer things like space ships being placed in and bright light also things like added artificial fog and real building seaming to crumble down when actually there not there just effects added in. They look really well though and real a lot of thought must have gone into them to get them perfect.

Costume

The costumes used in this film directly link with the characters that the actors/actresses. like if there is a normal women she will be wearing normal everyday clothes. the police are wearing uniform and the FBI are wearing smart suits

preliminary

Our preliminary didn't go very well i don't think there was lots of things that we did that didn't go to plan. These things caused our preliminary to look terrible in my opinion.

It was hard to edit with how our shots had been taken as they were ether to short endings to clip or we laughed at the end so i had to crop it really short.

When filming parts of our filming was shaking. When Shannon was filming we she could of put the camera on the tripod to prevent this but she didn't at the time. Parts of our filming was decent but we had to take a few shots as we wasn't concentrating properly and giggled a lot why filming.

To improve next time we will get our silliness out of the way and try and concentrate more. If we did this then we would get things done quicker and have more time for editing and it would properly help us argue less as when we were filming our preliminary we were arguing over it all.

When editing i was really struggling i found it hard to put the sound in with the video as i struggled to match the way the lips were moving and how fast the sound was. In parts where i had to cut the sound out the lips would move and there would be no sound as the sound wasn't needed.

Next time when editing the sound and the movement and the lips i will not cut quite as much of the sound off as it just made the video look worse. Its differently not my strong point and is the one key thing in editing that i need to work on the most.
Also there was defiantly a few sound problems in the preliminary as you could hair the odd few bumps in the back ground and also really quite sections that could maybe do with some sound as when you watch the clip it seems really odd there's the odd few parts were you can hair talking and then it goes quite again. Maybe next time we will add more sound in because it just doesn't work. Also another problem I see is that the clip is quite short as I had to cut a lot out due to laughing and other things.

Our story boards
